Chief Minister Takes Strict Cognizance of Surguja Eklavya School Issue; Speaks Directly to District Collector
CM Shri Vishnu Deo Sai Orders Inquiry, Says — “It Is Not Acceptable for Girl Students to Walk to Voice Their Problems”
Directs Fixing of Responsibility and Action Against Negligent Officers and Employees
Immediate Directions to Resolve Electricity, Education, Mess, Cleanliness and Other Issues
Ambikapur, September 9, 2026: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai has taken serious cognizance of the incident involving girl students of the Shivpur Eklavya Residential School in Surguja district walking towards the Collectorate to raise their grievances. As soon as he received information about the incident, the Chief Minister spoke to Surguja Collector Shri Ajit Vasant over the phone and sought detailed information about the entire matter.
The Chief Minister expressed strong displeasure over the situation in which problems had reportedly continued at the school for a long time, resulting in the students having to walk out to convey their concerns.
Chief Minister Shri Sai told the Collector that it is in no way acceptable for girl students to have to walk from their school to seek solutions to their basic problems. He questioned why electricity and other issues, if they had existed for a long period, were not resolved by the concerned officials in a timely manner.
The Chief Minister directed the Collector to conduct a detailed inquiry into the entire matter, fix responsibility and take appropriate action against the concerned officers and employees if negligence is found. He made it clear that negligence at any level regarding the education, safety and basic facilities of children studying in residential schools and hostels in tribal areas will not be tolerated.
Chief Minister Shri Sai directed the district administration to ensure the immediate resolution of the issues raised by the students, including electricity, shortage of teachers, regular classes, mess facilities and cleanliness. He further instructed that merely resolving the present problems would not be sufficient. A proper system must be established so that students’ grievances are heard and resolved promptly at the school and hostel level itself.
The Chief Minister also directed regular reviews of the arrangements at residential schools and hostels and continuous inspections by the concerned officials. He said that such a situation, where children staying in hostels have to personally approach the administration to get their problems resolved, should not arise again.
He emphasized that it is the responsibility of the concerned officials to regularly interact with the students, understand their problems and requirements, and ensure their timely resolution.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the state government is continuously providing resources to ensure quality education and better facilities for children in the tribal areas of the state. Ensuring that these resources and government schemes effectively benefit the children is the responsibility of field-level officials.
He reiterated that the government’s objective is to provide every child with a safe, comfortable and positive environment for education.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said, “Our children stay in residential schools and hostels and pursue their education with trust in us. It is our responsibility to listen to even their smallest concerns with sensitivity and ensure their timely resolution.”
He directed the district administration to maintain continuous dialogue with the students and ensure regular monitoring of the improvements being made in the school’s facilities and overall arrangements.
